Research Economist Frank McFarland apprised Dock of an opening at TTI. He interviewed with Bill Adkins and Charley Wootan in April 1969. Dock’s first TTI project was “Accident Costs in Texas” with Frank.
Dr. Herbert Richardson is Chairman of the SWUTC Executive Committee and Dock’s mentor. Herb had a distinguished career at M.I.T. prior to his coming to Texas A&M as Dean and Vice Chancellor of Engineering. He also served on this campus as Chancellor of the Texas A&M System; Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering; and Director of TTI. Presently, Herb holds these titles: Director emeritus, TTI ; Chancellor emeritus; and Distinguished Professor of Engineering emeritus.
Tom Glenn was a Research Economist at TTI during the mid-90’s and devised an innovative, insightful financial model for analyzing the economic viability of private toll roads.

Dr. Melissa Tooley, Director of the Mack-Blackwell UTC at the University of Arkansas was the keynote speaker for the SWUTC Rural Transportation Conference in 2001. A few years later, she joined TTI as Director of the UTC-Mobility. Melissa will become Director of SWUTC on 1 September 1, 2013.
Herb, Dock, Melissa and Dennis hosted RITA Administrator Peter Appel during a visit to SWUTC in 2011. Appel reviewed several SWUTC research projects and was the guest for a roundtable discussion with SWUTC students.
Dock and UT-Austin SWUTC members Michael Walton, Randy Machemehl, Zhanmin Zhang and Rob Harrison. The SWUTC partnership involving UT/CTR and TTI/TAMU serves an example of how the two flagship university systems can create win-win outcomes!

Dr. Carol Lewis, Director of the Center for Transportation Training and Research (CTTR) at TSU has been an integral part of the SWUTC since its inception. Dr. Lewis is a researcher and a faculty member in the Transportation Studies Department and active mentor annually to numerous TSU undergraduate and graduate students. Dr. Lewis also served on the TAMUS Committee to Select the TTI Director.
In 2001, SWUTC established the annual Dr. Naomi Lede Student Award to the most outstanding Masters Student. Dr. Lede was a founding member of SWUTC and served on the Executive Committee until her retirement from the faculty at Texas Southern University.
